Kylian Mbappé’s highly anticipated move to Real Madrid hasn’t unfolded as smoothly as many expected after his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The 25-year-old, who is signed through 2029, has had a challenging start in Madrid. His struggles were on display during Real Madrid’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool on Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League group stage.
With Vinicius sidelined last Wednesday, Mbappé had the chance to step into his favored role, but the night ended in frustration for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.
Although he found the net in a weekend match against Getafe, Mbappé has had difficulty delivering in key moments. His tough spell continued on Wednesday, missing a pivotal penalty in the 68th minute as Real Madrid fell 2-1 to Athletic Club.
Despite the setbacks, he showed signs of resilience by scoring in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Girona, highlighting the ups and downs of his first season in Spain.
Kylian Mbappé reveals relationship with Emir of Qatar
While talking to CLIQUE, the Frenchman noted his private conversation with the Emir of Qatar after revealing to him his plan to leave PSG as a free agent and join Real Madrid.
“My relationship with the Emir of Qatar has always been at the top,” Mbappé said. “I have always had a wonderful relationship with him. It’s not Kylian vs. Qatar like people said.
“I’m in the car, and news comes out that the Emir of Qatar is going to make an irrefusable offer to me to stay at PSG. But the Emir of Qatar told me to my ear: ‘They’re (media) all looking at us, thinking I’m making you an offer to stay now, but you see, you’ve decided to leave, and I respect your decision.
