Juventus v Venezia: Thiago Motta prepares for key clash and updates on player fitness

As Juventus transitions from their impressive Champions League victory over Manchester City to their upcoming Serie A match against Venezia, head coach Thiago Motta addressed the media, providing insights into his team’s preparations and player availability. The match is set for December 14 at the Allianz Stadium, where Juventus aims to secure crucial points to enhance their league standing.

Motta emphasized the importance of maintaining a consistent approach regardless of the opponent. “Our approach is always the same: we are focused, determined, and always respect the opponent. City, Lecce… all of them. The same goes for Venezia tomorrow, with the idea of entering the field and always doing better. Humility, determination, and solidarity are essential for us to play a great game.”

Regarding player fitness, Motta provided updates on those who will not be available for selection. “The unavailable players are Bremer, Cabal, Milik, and Rouhi, who will be out due to a minor muscular injury. Cambiaso has not yet recovered; he’s in pain and not in condition to play. Nico Gonzalez returns to the group: he’s very happy. The medical and performance staff have worked hard to get him back, and I hope to give him some minutes. It’s not certain; we’ll evaluate based on the match.”

Motta also expressed his satisfaction with Dusan Vlahovic’s recent form: “He did very well against City; I’m happy with his performance. He continues to work well as he always has. Tomorrow he’ll have another opportunity to play a great game.”

On Venezia’s capabilities, Motta stated, “They are a team that always tries to play well; they have caused difficulties for many opponents with their style of play. They have an experienced coach who has had years of success in playing attractive football. We remain determined to execute our game plan.”

Highlighting the contributions of Teun Koopmeiners, Motta remarked, “He’s fundamental in everything; he can do anything. If you pay attention, he’s fantastic—a true number 10. He has a great mental approach during difficulties. The reactions he has when facing challenges are fantastic as well. That’s why I say it’s difficult to take him off the field; he helps the team tremendously.”

Addressing his upcoming touchline ban for the match against Venezia, Motta remained optimistic about his team’s performance: “It will be the first time I won’t be there, but I think and hope it will have little impact. From above, you see a different game because on the field you can’t notice certain things and vice versa. I trust my players 200%. We need to start the match with rhythm and intensity to put them in difficulty.”

On the goalkeeper situation, Motta noted the depth of talent within his squad: “We have three great goalkeepers: Di Gregorio, Perin, and Pinsoglio. They know they always have the possibility to play; we’ll see if there will be rotation tomorrow—it benefits both them and the team.”

Finally, he praised Weston McKennie’s potential contributions: “In the last game, he came on well; he can improve his level and has the physical and technical characteristics to arrive in the opponent’s area. Against City, he scored a great goal—not just for the finish but also for his overall play. Tomorrow he could start.”
