Juventus have tried to cut down the losses in the last couple of years after hiring Cristiano Giuntoli, but their long-term strategy is to invest, as CEO Maurizio Scanavino told Radio Serie A (via Sky).
“We’re working with the director and Thiago Motta to have strong players and don’t rule out the addition of champions who could help the team and make a difference. We were in the red by €200M last year. However, removing the missed prize money from UEFA and extemporaneous expenses stemming from the ‘plusvalenze’ trial, the real losses were about €70M. It’s significantly less than in the past. There could be some unpredictability, but our trajectory is very good. Regarding the main sponsor, we’re in talks with many companies. We’ll come to terms by the end of the season. In the meantime, we opted for a charity.”
Scanavino indicated the way forward.
“The goal is to find the right balance between sustainability and competitiveness and bring in more resources to bolster the squad. We were coming off a peculiar situation. The wages and the amortizations were particularly high. Despite the recent contraction, Juventus remain the team that will prospectively have the largest budget to invest in the sports area. That’s the basis. It wouldn’t be right to imagine a downsizing strategy that would reduce our chances of chasing after the maximum goals.”
Scanavino commented on the Club World Cup.
“It’s a very positive opportunity for the team and the players to gain experience and have a big showcase. Juventus will have visibility across the globe. We hope it’ll have a sound impact on our revenues too, but we’re still negotiating with FIFA along with ECA about that.”
