The Los Angeles Lakers have finally begun to make their move.

They swung a deal to acquire Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for D’Angelo Russell, Maxwell Lewis, and three second-round picks.

For weeks, the Lakers have been linked to players like Finney-Smith, and general manager Rob Pelinka finally pulled the trigger on a trade.

Several teams were interested in trading for Finney-Smith, with the Memphis Grizzlies approaching a deal before Los Angeles swooped in with its offer.

The veteran wing is an excellent addition to head coach JJ Redick’s roster, as they lacked a bigger defender to take on perimeter assignments.

Redick has been high on Finney-Smith for a long time, and his comments on his new player have resurfaced via The Athletic.

“He’s just an awesome player. He’s a player that can fit on any team in the NBA. Great defender,” Redick said.

Redick got to know Finney-Smith during their time together on the Dallas Mavericks, so he has a good idea of what he’s getting.

As a low-usage forward who defends and knocks down threes, he’s the ideal player to slot alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

His biggest contributions, though, will come on the defensive end, as he will be asked to guard stars like Jayson Tatum and Luka Doncic on a nightly basis.

This is a great move for a Lakers team that is turning the corner, and it’ll be interesting to see if they continue to add via the trade market.
