The Detroit Pistons are slowly getting into a groove.

J.J. Redick’s team couldn’t get past them in their latest encounter, dropping a close game to an opponent they could’ve and should’ve beaten.

That’s why, after the game, the first-year coach had to tip his hat to their opponents.

Redick praised J.B. Bickerstaff’s team for making the most of their miscues.

“They capitalized every time we made a mistake,” Redick said.

The Lakers are an inconsistent team.

They’re now sitting on a 16-13 record and the No. 7 spot in the Western Conference, which seems to be their true status.

They’re not good enough to compete for a championship, and not even making a couple of minor roster adjustments will be enough to change that.

Redick was always given a tough hand, and while his numbers haven’t been much better than Darvin Ham’s, he couldn’t have done much more with this roster.

The Lakers must re-assess their priorities and approach for the remainder of the season.

LeBron James might not be able or willing to play for another season.

That will leave a big void on their roster, and they could also look to part ways with Anthony Davis in a trade to start from scratch.

It might be a long while before this team gets back to the mountaintop.
