The other day, former player Brandon Jennings called Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics the “softest superstar in Celtics history.”

Tatum obviously heard Jennings’ statement and had a response to it.

“Surprised? No. I think it comes with being one of the best players in the league. … If I wasn’t who I was or had certain status, people would probably not talk about me as much,” Tatum said, according to Brian Robb, via Legion Hoops.

Tatum is attempting to take it all with confidence and positivity.

He knows that people will talk about him and possibly say negative things.

But he feels it’s because he is so good, and the better he gets, the more critics he will receive.

This has been true for many NBA superstars, including LeBron James, Kevin Durant and more.

They find a lot of success and do great things, and people come out to poke at their skills and deny their greatness.

Is that what’s going on with Jennings and Tatum?

No matter what Jennings said, the numbers prove Tatum is having another outstanding season with averages of 27.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.

He is shooting 46.1 percent from the field and many of his stats are better this year than last year.

Considering the Celtics won the championship last season, that’s a very good sign.

If Tatum’s Celtics stay toward the top of the standings for the next few years, he will have to grow accustomed to more and more people critiquing him.

Like he said, that’s the price of being great in the NBA.
