Jason Kidd’s job as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks has been very difficult lately.
It’s never been easy but things have gotten increasingly tough with the loss of Luka Doncic and the injuries to Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and others.
Speaking to the press, Kidd talked about the new reality of the team and how the squad doesn’t have any clear No. 1 or No. 2 options on the roster.
“There’s no No. 1 option, it’s team…We don’t have a No. 1 or No. 2, we’re not built like that right now. We’re built on team…Klay’s one of the best, a future Hall of Famer, but we gotta run plays, we gotta set screens and create those opportunities for him…It’s gonna be a group effort every night, it’s gonna be someone different, and that can mean that we can be dangerous, cause then no one can load up on one person, and we gotta take advantage of that,” Kidd said, per Noah Weber.
Jason Kidd on the difficulty of planning who will be the No. 1 option given current circumstances:
“There’s no No. 1 option, it’s team…We don’t have a No. 1 or No. 2, we’re not built like that right now. We’re built on team…Klay’s one of the best, a future Hall of Famer, but… pic.twitter.com/A9ZyjqedH6

Kidd’s statement came just moments after the Mavericks were taken down by the Memphis Grizzlies.
Like Kidd said, the game was a team effort and even though they didn’t win, multiple players tried their hardest to score a victory.
Brandon Williams scored the most off the bench, posting 31 points, five rebounds, and six assists.
Klay Thompson, who was referenced by Kidd, scored 15 points during the game and others like Naji Marshall and Kessler Edwards chipped in a lot.
The Mavericks are now in a challenging position but they are trying to make the most of it and allow all players to contribute and help.
This could be a benefit for them because opposing teams won’t know who to target or who could do the most damage.
Of course, fans would feel better about Kidd’s stance if the team was winning more.
