Francesco Acerbi is back on the mend due to the consequences of a lingering thigh injury, denting the Inter defensive rotation. He’ll miss at least the next two matches to follow a specific training program to get back into shape and solve the problem for good, coach Simone Inzaghi explained in the pre-game presser.
The Inter officials have often stated that they don’t want to do anything in January. However, Simone Inzaghi would be more at ease if they signed a center-back. Tiago Tomas Palacios isn’t a real resource yet.
The Nerazzurri could indirectly address the position through the Davide Frattesi deal, changing their mind about taking some players in return, TuttoSport informs (via Stop and Goal). In particular, they could accept Nicola Zalewski, who’s on his way out since he has just six months left on his deal with Roma. He’s not playing much under Claudio Ranieri either.
Signing the Pole would signal the departure of Tajon Buchanan, who’s wanted by Torino. Moreover, it’d allow them to use Carlos Augusto as a center-back. They’d have another reliable option on the left behind Carlos Augusto.
The Nerazzurri haven’t completely ruled out bringing in Bryan Cristante either. He has some experience as a center-back too. Still, even if the operation came together with the inclusion of some makeweights, the price tag of Frattesi wouldn’t be lower than €40/45M.
Our Take on Inter
Acerbi is starting to become a real problem, and they have been living dangerously in the back for a while now, even though the numbers have been good. Zalewski is an easy bet to bounce back after a change of scenery, but his situation wouldn’t improve much.
