Of course, that’s not much of a surprise.
This always was deemed to be one of the weakest classes in recent history, with only Jared McCain and, to a degree, Stephon Castle, impressive so far.
Nevertheless, a first-year player could still wind up making a big impact on his team, even if it’s not by playing.
“In trade talks between the [Sacramento] Kings and [Brooklyn] Nets on Cam Johnson, rookie lottery pick Devin Carter is a player to watch potentially included in a deal,” Evan Sidery of Forbes wrote on X.

Carter has yet to make his NBA debut as he’s recovering from a shoulder injury, but he’s expected to be back on the court next month.
The Kings are reportedly eyeing Johnson, the Nets’ veteran sharpshooter who entered the season as a prime trade candidate.
Sacramento has struggled with 3-point shooting, which also isn’t much of a surprise.
Already with De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, adding DeMar DeRozan to the mix was not going to help them in that regard.
Keegan Murray has failed to step up as a lottery pick, as he hasn’t been much more than just a streaky shooter, which may open the door for a floor-spacer like Johnson to have a big role if he lands with Sacramento.
If giving up a rookie from a weak NBA Draft class is the price to pay, then so be it.
