The Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler met this week to assess his situation.
Butler publicly requested to be traded.
He stated that he had lost his joy in playing basketball and that he wouldn’t regain it as long as he remained in Miami.
Now, a report by Shams Charania of ESPN reveals that things haven’t changed at all.
Butler, in fact, doubled down on his desire to leave the organization as soon as possible.
“It is not fixable as it stands right now between Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat… Nothing has changed on his trade request. In fact, I’m told he doubled-down in his meeting with the Arisons.”

This isn’t the first time that a star player has gotten into a power struggle with Pat Riley.
Riley, as an old-school guy, intends for the players to do something they seemingly refuse to do more often nowadays, which is simply to respect the very lucrative contracts they sign.
Then again, he’s not devoid of guilt here.
He ripped Bulter for his comments about the Celtics after not being on the court for the playoffs last season.
Then, he suspended Butler for seven games for conduct detrimental to the team this season.
Butler has a long history of burning bridges with authority, but Riley has a history of running star players out of town.
And with either party willing to cave in, it seems like this is a point of no return.
