Il Mattino: Napoli Reach Agreement in Principle for Garnacho: What’s Left to Close the Deal

Napoli are on the verge of a major transfer coup as they near an agreement for Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho. With Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain all but confirmed, the Italian club is moving swiftly to secure a replacement for their outgoing star.

Il Mattino report that Antonio Conte, Napoli’s manager, has specifically requested Garnacho as his top target to complete a formidable attacking trident alongside Romelu Lukaku and David Neres. This move is seen as crucial in Napoli’s push for the Scudetto in the second half of the season.

Giovanni Manna, Napoli’s sporting director, recently met with Garnacho’s representatives in Barcelona. The young winger has expressed his willingness to move to Campania, attracted by the prospect of working under Conte and competing for titles while potentially returning to Champions League football next season.

According to the report, Napoli have offered Garnacho a five-year contract worth approximately €3 million per season, with a gradual increase. While some details are still being negotiated, with Garnacho’s camp seeking €4 million annually, the inclusion of performance-related bonuses is expected to bridge this gap.

However, the main hurdle remains Manchester United’s valuation of the player. The English club is demanding nearly €70 million for Garnacho, while Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is unwilling to exceed €50 million.

Should negotiations with United stall, Napoli have lined up alternatives including Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, Federico Chiesa (although he prefers to stay at Liverpool), Dan Ndoye from Bologna (potentially in a swap deal involving Cyril Ngonge), and Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.
