While some fans may have started to question Marmoush‘s impact at City, his compatriot Mido has revealed he never wavered in his belief of the player’s talents. It was Mido who handed the ex-Wolfsburg star his senior debut at the age of 17 when he was in charge of Egyptian outfit Wadi Degla in 2016. And speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast show, Mido has backed Marmoush to make a big mark in England. He said: “I’m not surprised with his ethic from last weekend, I know him very well. “I know that he is brave and has got the character to compete at the highest level, the boy has got quality. “I gave him his debut [at Wadi Degla] when I was coaching him, he’s a top talent, a top player. “It’s a great investment for Manchester City, he’s the right age now. I always believe – especially for a striker and attacking players – 26 or 27 is the best age to find a player. Mido believes Marmoush boasts traits similar to ex-Tottenham teammate DefoeGetty Marmoush was the star of the show against the Magpies after banging in a quickfire treble “Because this is the time when you get into your peak of your career, he’s a top striker, he can play as a winger as well. “He’s very clever to get into the right movement with the right timing, and I think when the City team gets better and plays better, he will score more goals.” Mido added: “It will take him time [to get used to the Premier League], especially because Man City are not doing great this season. “But he will upgrade the squad, and I think this was the idea from the management to sign him because he can play in different positions. “He can play as a left winger, right winger, and believe me, he’s a good striker as well, if [Erling] Haaland is not there, he can do a job. “This season I’m expecting him to do well and starting from next season where Man City of course will sign another four or five quality players, I think he will be the star of the team next season.” Marmoush will be City’s leading star next season, claims MidoGetty He has started in three Premier League games since arriving from Frankfurt Commenting on Marmoush’s traits, Mido stated: “He’s a direct player, he doesn’t care about touching the ball much or getting deep. “He just makes the right movement at the right time, he’s great with dealing with crosses for tap-ins and to be in the right position. “I think he is a great fit to play with Haaland as well, because Haaland will make his job much easier with his physical presence and the way he keeps the ball. They can play very well together.” Mido then compared him to Spurs icon Defoe, as he stated: “This is his quality – to run behind the defenders and to run the channel. “He’s a little bit like Defoe, he doesn’t want the ball to his feet so much, okay he’s good on the ball when he gets the ball to his feet. “But his real quality is to run behind the defenders and to stretch any defence that plays against City.” After starring against Newcastle, Marmoush will now be looking to help City advance into the Champions League last-16.
