‘He’s had me on toast!’ – Jamie O’Hara falls for Ally McCoist’s Rangers prank call after Europa League clash
Jamie O’Hara was left red-faced after falling victim to a hilarious prank call from Ally McCoist. The talkSPORT host and former Rangers hero was in a jubilant mood after his beloved club put in a fine display to hold Tottenham to a 1-1 draw in the Europa League. Hamza Igamane gave Rangers the lead against Spurs And McCoist couldn’t resist winding up ex-Spurs man O’Hara about the result, as he phoned in to The Sports Bar shortly after full-time. But the Scot made sure to use a different alias to prank his colleague, with the help of his co-host Jason Cundy. Introduced as ‘Hamish the Rangers fan’, McCoist attempted to disguise his voice as he called in to heap praise on his team, after O’Hara had bemoaned Tottenham’s performance. He began: “Different bracket tonight, I’m listening to you boys. I’m listening to O’Hara, and: ‘It’s Spurs this, big Ange that’. “The Rangers were different level tonight, come on J!” The 62-year-old continued: “It was unbelievable, I’m telling you! “The substitutes – to be fair to big Ange, he made one or two changes, he brought [Dejan] Kulusevski on the right hand side, did well, and the boy, the big centre forward [Dominic Solanke], and they did alright, they changed it a little bit.” Referring to Fraser Forster’s last-gasp save which denied the Gers a win, ‘Hamish’ added: “But what about the save in the last minute!” The gag clearly worked on O’Hara, who quickly tried to put his enthusiastic mystery caller in his place – much to Cundy’s visible surprise. He replied: “I mean, listen, fair play to the Rangers. I’ve just figured out who this is! It’s McCoist this, isn’t it? “I did think: ‘Hamish, the Rangers fan’. Oh, McCoist has phoned us up, he’s had me on toast!” O’Hara’s reaction had both McCoist and Cundy in stitches, as his studio partner revealed that he had been behind the choice of name. Struggling to contain himself, Cundy told the Scot: “Who do you think came up with Hamish, Ally? I just said the most Scottish name I could think of!” And O’Hara admitted the wind-up gag had worked a treat, as he said: “McCoist, you sucked me right in there! “I was about to get the hump and start digging you out!”
