Two days before the crucial home match against Antonio Conte’s Napoli, Genoa coach Patrick Vieira addressed the media in a press conference. He discussed the team’s current state, provided updates, and notably commented on the club’s new owner, Romanian entrepreneur Dan Sucu, who recently visited Genoa to familiarize himself with the environment.
Regarding the new ownership, the former Inter and Arsenal player stated: “We met him this morning. I believe it’s an important day for the club. This will bring stability, which is very positive for the fans and everyone working in the organization. Did I already know about the negotiations? Did I have guarantees for the transfer market? The guarantee is having Ottolini and Blazquez remain with the club, which is crucial for the future.”
Sucu has already left Italy and won’t be present for the Napoli match. Vieira commented on the team’s reaction to the ownership change: “They’ve taken it well, but our work doesn’t change. We’re playing Sunday against a team trying to win the championship. We expect a difficult match, but we’ve had a good week of training and we’ll be ready for this challenge.”
The Genoa coach elaborated on what the new ownership could bring: “The stability and tranquility we seek off the field, we also have on the pitch. Again, it’s a positive thing for the club. Now on the field, we must do what we need to find this stability in our play.”
Addressing concerns about the team’s attack, Vieira expressed satisfaction: “As a coach, I’m happy with what the team has done so far. We want to do more, but we have offensive players who were injured and are returning. It takes time. We also have players adapted to attack, with only Pinamonti in his natural position. I’m very pleased with the players’ attitude.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming transfer window, Vieira emphasized the importance of assessing the current squad: “I think it’s important to look at the group and see what’s missing, and use the market to find that player. All the players here still have time to show they want to be part of this project, to demonstrate on the field that they want to do well for the club. But I have no doubts about this; we need to build the group to play as we want. It’s possible we already have these players in our squad.”
