Genoa Cricket and Football Club has officially announced Romanian entrepreneur Dan Șucu as its new majority owner. The club confirmed that Șucu has acquired approximately 77% of Genoa’s shares through a capital increase of €45,356,262, of which €40 million was paid.
Șucu, a prominent figure in the international economic landscape, is the president of Confederația Patronală Concordia, Romania’s equivalent of Confindustria. Born in Bucharest on April 25, 1963, he is best known as the founder of Mobexpert, Romania’s largest furniture brand with over 2,200 employees. His business interests extend to real estate and media sectors, including a key role in the economic newspaper Ziarul Financiar.
Already the owner of Rapid Bucharest football club, Șucu has a track record of revitalizing historic institutions. At Rapid, he invested in modern infrastructure and a youth academy that now hosts around 700 young athletes. His approach focuses on leveraging football as a social tool to promote inclusion and personal growth.
In his first statement as Genoa’s new president, Șucu expressed both honor and responsibility in becoming the club’s reference shareholder. He emphasized that managing a football club goes beyond business aspects, requiring genuine passion for the sport and commitment to the fan community.
Șucu outlined some of his programmatic points, including establishing successful collaborations between Genoa and Eastern European clubs, such as Rapid Bucharest. He envisions young Italian players starting their careers in these clubs, participating in national leagues and European competitions. Conversely, he plans to bring some of the best talents from these countries to play for Genoa in Serie A, one of the world’s most important leagues.
The new owner stressed the importance of teamwork at all levels, acknowledging the significance of fan involvement in the club’s life and their expectations for sporting results. He expressed enthusiasm about the young management team already in place at Genoa and his readiness to contribute his experience and energy to achieve great goals together.
Șucu concluded his statement with a message to Genoa fans: “Dear Genoani, I can’t wait to see you at the stadium. Forza Genoa!”
