Fonseca rants after Milan win over Red Star: “If I have to I’ll bring in the Primavera….”

AC Milan secured their fourth consecutive Champions League victory with a 2-1 win over Red Star Belgrade, keeping their hopes alive for the round of 16. However, manager Paulo Fonseca was far from satisfied and lashed out at his team in a post-match interview with Sky Sport.

“I’m someone who is not just satisfied with the result,” Fonseca began. “We won, and we’re in a good position, but I’m tired of fighting against these things. I’m not satisfied with the team’s performance.”

The Portuguese coach didn’t hold back in his criticism, stating, “The problem is that our team is like a rollercoaster: one day we’re good, the next I don’t know. It’s like flipping a coin, heads or tails. It’s shocking.”

Fonseca expressed his disappointment with the team’s approach to such a crucial match. “Having this feeling that we’re not doing everything to win the game is the worst sensation we can have,” he said. “I know that I work every day to teach the team and do well. And I don’t know if everyone in our squad can say the same. We have the obligation to come here today and do everything to win the game. And we didn’t do that.”

The manager hinted at potential consequences, saying, “I need to talk to the squad about what happened. They need to understand that this cannot happen.”

In the press conference that followed, Fonseca continued his critique: “When we enter a decisive match like this and have this type of attitude, without giving everything for this shirt, things are difficult. I didn’t like what we did as a team: we have the obligation not to play better, but to give everything on the field. You can misplace a pass, but it’s hard to watch this.”

When asked about who didn’t give their all to win, Fonseca replied, “I don’t want to go into details. I’ll talk to the team, but this is my feeling.”

The coach expressed his sadness rather than anger, stating, “I’m not angry, I’m sad because what I’d like to see in the team is something I didn’t see.”

Fonseca concluded with a stark warning: “I will never stop. My conscience is clear because I’m doing everything for Milan. If I need to bring in players from the youth team or Milan Future, I’ll do it. No problem.”
