The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has officially opened an investigation into the “Doppia Curva” (Double Curva) case involving ultras from Inter Milan and AC Milan. This follows the recent arrests of numerous ultras from both clubs’ supporter groups, the Curva Nord and Curva Sud, respectively.
The FIGC’s investigation, led by Chief Prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné, will focus on the relationships between club officials, players, and ultras. Such direct relationships are prohibited by the sports justice code and could lead to disciplinary actions.
Tuttosport report how several high-profile names have emerged in connection with the criminal investigation, including Inter’s vice-president Javier Zanetti, coach Simone Inzaghi, midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, Milan’s captain Davide Calabria, and former Inter defender Milan Skriniar (now at PSG). While these individuals are not under criminal investigation and have only been questioned as witnesses, they may face different consequences in the realm of sports justice.
Article 25 of the FIGC’s Code of Sports Justice, titled “Prevention of Violent Acts,” explicitly forbids relationships with ultras. Clubs found in violation could face fines ranging from €10,000 to €50,000 for Serie A teams, with repeat offenses potentially resulting in matches played behind closed doors.
For individual members (players, coaches, officials), the code prohibits relationships with supporter groups not officially associated with the clubs. Violations can lead to various sanctions as outlined in Article 9, including warnings, fines, match suspensions, temporary bans from stadiums, and temporary prohibitions from holding positions within the FIGC.
Based on current information, the players Calhanoglu, Calabria, and Skriniar appear to be at greatest risk of on-field impact. They could potentially face hefty fines and suspensions of up to three matches. For Inzaghi and Zanetti, temporary bans from football-related activities and financial penalties are possible outcomes.
