Everton were close to signing a former Premier League winner on loan in the January transfer window before pulling out of the move, according to reports.

The Toffees were on the hunt for an extra forward following the injury to striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Scouts were sent to watch one player, who claimed a top flight winners medal in the 2016-17 season.

However, the reports that came back were not particularly positive and David Moyes decided against following through, claim The Sun.

The forward was Michy Batshuayi, who spent three seasons with Chelsea.

He scored nine goals in 28 appearances in Antonio Conte’s title-winning side, including the goal that sealed it against West Brom.

The 31-year-old took his talents to the Bundesliga instead, joining Eintracht Frankfurt from Galatasaray last week.

A deal for West Brom winger Tom Fellows was also turned down by the Toffees’ owners to save cash for the summer window.

Moyes had been previously linked with a move for Batshuayi, during his first time in charge of West Ham back in 2018.

Injuries to Calvert-Lewin as well a former Chelsea man Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti have left Everton with Beto as their only real No 9.
