Eddie Redmayne is the proud dad of two children: Iris and Luke.
The Les Misérables actor and his wife, Hannah Bagshawe, became first-time parents when they welcomed their daughter Iris in June 2016. Their second child, son Luke, was born in March 2018.
That same year, Redmayne spoke with PEOPLE about adjusting to being a family of four. "I have two little children ... so, honestly, life is about trying to keep the children alive. But they're wonderful," The Theory of Everything star said.

Speaking about his "fantastic" daughter’s relationship with her younger brother, Redmayne shared, "There are occasional moments when Hannah and I are both out of the room and we get a glimpse of Iris entertaining Luke. No one makes him laugh as much as she does."
He concluded, "You can't quite believe it. Like, these humans are interacting [by themselves], so that's been pretty special."
From their births to their opinion on projects, here's everything Eddie Redmayne has said about his two children, Iris and Luke.
Iris Mary Redmayne, 8
Redmayne and Bagshawe welcomed their daughter, Iris Mary Redmayne, on June 15, 2016.
A few months earlier, Redmayne confirmed that his wife was expecting their first child while on the Oscars red carpet. "I'm trying to keep her hydrated. That's my job," he said in February 2016. "I'm excited. But I don't think it's sunk in yet. We just bought our first baby book. So there's the first step."
Shortly after Iris' birth, the actor revealed during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that the infant arrived two weeks after her due date. "Iris appeared in the world and I gave her a stern talking-to," he quipped in November 2016.
In the same sit-down, the Oscar winner shared that he and Bagshawe brought Iris to her first Olympics in Rio de Janeiro when she was 2 months old. The family flew with members of the British Olympic team, causing Redmayne to worry about the newborn.
"There was this fear like, 'What if she cries lots and then they don't sleep and they blame all of their lack of success on Iris?' " he told Ellen DeGeneres. "But she was amazing. She was so calm."
As Iris has gotten older, she's started to share her opinions on her dad's career.
During an October 2022 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actor revealed that his kids didn’t hold back with thoughts on their dad’s darker role in The Good Nurse. In the Netflix film, based on true events, Redmayne stars as Charles Cullen, a nurse who murdered dozens of patients.
Iris and Luke were able to visit the set while he was filming in New York and Connecticut and later saw the trailer.
"They also thought that I was playing the good nurse, then they caught a glimpse of the trailer for the film, which again is horrific parenting, and they realized quite promptly that I was not the good nurse," he explained.
"My daughter asked me if I could maybe go back to being a wizard," Redmayne added, referring to his role as Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
Luke Richard Bagshawe Redmayne, 6
Redmayne and Bagshawe welcomed their son, Luke Richard Bagshawe Redmayne, on March 10, 2018.
In April 2022, during an interview with Crash magazine, the actor discussed his work-life balance and how his own upbringing compared to Iris and Luke's childhood.
"The acting world has such a weird life rhythm that constantly shifts. When it comes to my family, I personally had quite a stable upbringing and I'm endlessly trying to find some stability for my kids," he said.
Redmayne also explained the particular complications of his job, sharing that he and Bagshawe "have no control" when he's doing theater work.
"You have to sleep late in the mornings so you don't get to see your kids," he continued. "It's quite intense to put my wife and kids through that, so I was trying to be quite good at going home when I could."
After joining the cast of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club in 2024, Redmayne opened up about how Iris and Luke had become fans of the show’s songs.
"My children love the theater," he told PEOPLE. "And they love the music to Cabaret, because the songs are so memorable and playful, they sort of sit in your head so quickly."
The actor added, "Sometimes the lyrics are kind of more questionable. I was saying the other day that my daughter is sort of going around singing that song, 'Don't Tell Mama.' And all the lyrics are kind of horrendously inappropriate."
Redmayne shared that he was hoping to slip his kids into the August Wilson Theatre to at least see his opening number.
"They haven't been to see the show, but I'm thinking of trying to sneak them into watch 'Willkommen,' " he said. "Because they've been such a part of this journey for me, my kids."
