Dyson Daniels: In New Orleans, I was scared to do anything. But this year, I’m playing free

Dyson Daniels: I think coming here to Atlanta feels like a fresh start for me. I just wanted to come in with a clear head and a clear mind. That’s probably the biggest thing I’ve taken away from the start of this year compared to my years in New Orleans—I just have a free mind. I’m playing free. I’m not worrying about anything the outside world is saying or any of that. In New Orleans, I had so much built up in me mentally and physically. I was scared to do anything. But this year, I’m playing free. I’m being myself, going out there and making plays. I always knew I could do it—it was just about letting it out. It’s hard to pinpoint one specific thing that’s changed in my game, but really, it’s just about being myself. Going out there, playing free, and not caring about what anyone thinks—that’s the key. When you bottle up two years in your head and finally let it out, it’s like a bird running free. Whatever you want to call it—a dog running free, a bird flying free. I think “bird running free” is pretty universal. I don’t think that’s just an Australian thing.Source: YouTube What’s the buzz on Twitter? My first two years, I was timid. I was just trying to fit in. I’d go to sleep with the mindset of, ‘I can do more, I need to do more.’ But nothing was clicking for me. Going forward, this summer, as soon as the season ended, I got home and wanted to have a really good summer of work. I had my trainer come out to Australia with me for six weeks before we got into Olympic preparation. Going into the Olympics, I was given a really good opportunity. -via YouTube / December 12, 2024 Lev Akabas: Dyson Daniels is leading the NBA in stocks this season, with Victor Wembanyama right on his tail pic.x.com/GgxhE92Bzc -via Twitter @LevAkabas / December 10, 2024 Draymond Green: I hate these lists. I hate these lists with a passion. For example, Dyson Daniels is having a really good season with Atlanta, but two months ago, no one believed in him. Now he’s 23 on the list. No Cam Thomas? (…) What justifies Tyrese Haliburton being in front of Jalen Williams? Don’t get me wrong—Tyrese is a very good player, an All-Star, and an Olympic gold medalist. But when I look at this, Jalen Williams has more upside. Jalen is 6’9″, can pass, shoot, get to the cup. Two weeks ago, he played center, then switched to point guard. When I see stuff like this, I wonder who validates it. Yes, Tyrese has done more, but Jalen Williams’ upside is higher than a lot of people on this list. Not just Tyrese—this applies to a lot of names.” -via YouTube / December 7, 2024
