The 2024-25 NBA season has not gone well for the Sacramento Kings, who are in the midst of a five-game losing streak.
The Kings have stagnated defensively, while offensively they’re not the same juggernaut they used to be.
Due to its recent struggles, Sacramento made the shocking decision to fire head coach Mike Brown.
The move sent shockwaves through the NBA as Brown had signed a three-year extension with the Kings earlier this year.
Kings star De’Aaron Fox was asked about the Brown firing and his response was quite telling.
“I wouldn’t use the word ‘guilt.’ That’s the nature of the job that we have. Obviously him signing his extension this summer, we thought we would be together a whole lot longer. But that’s the decision that they made. But at the end of the day too, he’s still getting paid. A great part of being an NBA player, being an NBA coach, is those things can happen, but contracts are guaranteed,” Fox said, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

From those comments, it doesn’t sound like Fox was very surprised by or even disappointed with the decision.
Rumors are swirling that Fox could ask for a trade out of Sacramento, so the organization may have decided to fire Brown to appease its franchise player.
However, firing a head coach during the season is typically a stopgap solution, so the Kings and Fox will need to figure out how to get back on track or the rest of the campaign will be for naught.
