Coventry owner confirms Viktor Gyokeres transfer sell-on clause but will have to share it with Premier League club

Coventry are set to receive a tidy transfer windfall from any future sale of former striker Viktor Gyokeres. The Sweden international spent two years at the Championship club following an initial loan from Brighton. Viktor Gyokeres is one of European football’s hottest propertiesAFP Since leaving English football for Sporting CP in 2023, Gyokeres has gone on to become one of Europe’s hottest strikers, having fired the Portuguese side to the title last season. Gyokeres has netted a staggering 67 goals in 70 games across all competition for Sporting including a hattrick in the 4-1 thrashing of Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this month. With few strikers currently available on the market, Gyokeres has attracted plenty of attention from Europe’s big hitters including Premier League interest in Arsenal and Manchester United. Gyokeres has a release clause of £85million inserted into his contract however reports suggest he could leave for a fee in the region of £50-58m. And that would mean a welcome injection of cash for Coventry due to a sell-on agreement with Sporting. “Viktor has gone crazy in terms of how he has performed,” Coventry owner Doug King told talkSPORT. “That was a tough negotiation with Sporting Lisbon and if he does move on to somewhere else in his career then we will benefit. “I’m not holding my breath.
