Antonio Cassano, known for his outspoken nature, has once again stirred the pot during his appearance on Viva El Futbol. After criticizing Gerry Cardinale’s management of AC Milan, the former Italian international turned his attention to Juventus, casting doubt on Thiago Motta’s future and endorsing Roberto Mancini as a potential replacement.
Cassano’s comments come in the wake of Mancini’s recent interview with RAI, where the former Italy national team coach expressed regret over leaving his position to manage the Saudi Arabian national team, a role from which he was recently dismissed.
Regarding Mancini’s decision to coach Saudi Arabia, Cassano drew an analogy: “It’s as if you were a LeBron James in the NBA, and Varese calls you, and you choose to go there. At that moment, Mancini was a top coach and still is: he accepted the Arabs’ offer because they filled him with money. Not for other situations, only for money. If another national team had called him, like the United States for example, his decision would have been more understandable. I wouldn’t have agreed with it, but it certainly would have been more comprehensible.”
Cassano, who maintains “immense esteem for Roberto,” went on to make a bold prediction about Mancini’s future, particularly in relation to Juventus:
“Since he will return, because it is certain that he will return, let’s pay attention to Mancini-Juve. I’m saying it now. At the moment, Thiago Motta is not doing a good job. A top club needs a top manager and not just a top coach, because you have to put some situations in order. Who better than him?”
