Bundesliga Preview | Bayern Munich vs Heidenheim: Can Vincent Kompany’s side extend their lead at the top?

Bayern Munich will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table as they face Heidenheim at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Vincent Kompany’s side remain unbeaten in the league so far with nine wins and three draws in twelve matches and are now four points clear of second placed Eintracht Frankfurt.

Their most recent league match saw them come from behind to draw 1-1 against Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker thanks to another headed goal from Jamal Musiala.

However, they did suffer defeat on Tuesday in the DFB Cup against Bayer Leverkusen with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer receiving a red card.

Despite this Bayern have been both prolific and defensively solid in the league by scoring 37 goals and conceding eight times which are both the best records in the Bundesliga.

Heidenheim are enduring much more of a difficult season in comparison to their hugely successful season in 2023/24 when they qualified for the Europa Conference League.

They currently sit in 16th place with eight losses and two wins in twelve games.

They also have one of the poorest defensive records in the league and have now lost four matches in a row.

It is a massive test against the highest scorers in the league for Frank Schmidt’s side but a result against the title favourite could be a massive confidence boost and a kick start for the rest of their season.

Team News

Kompany will be without Harry Kane for at least most of December due to suffering with a torn muscle fibre.

Joao Palhinha will also be out of action until January.

It has also been confirmed that Serge Gnabry will be missing this fixture due to a knee issue and Manuel Neuer will miss out due to discomfort in his ribs.

Heidenheim forward Marvin Pieringer is not likely to appear again until February 2025 due to an Achilles tendon injury.

There are also fitness doubts over midfielders Julian Niehues and Luka Janes.
