Bologna were minutes away from pulling off a substantial upset at the Allianz Stadium, only for Juventus to score a last-gasp equalizer in a dramatic 2-2 draw. Vincenzo Italiano’s team squandered a two-goal lead in Turin, wasting a glorious opportunity to post their first top-flight win on Juve’s home ground since 2011.
“We came extremely close to a spectacular victory based on what we showed on the pitch,” the Bologna boss told DAZN via Gianluca Di Marzio. “We were punished for the little we conceded. Between a lack of clarity and fatigue, we couldn’t patch things up on the last ball. I see growth and great application from the team. I asked the boys for these kinds of performances, but these are two points thrown away.”
Despite throwing away two points in a heartbreaking fashion, Bologna showed they can cope with Serie A’s elite. Italiano hails his team’s character but insists there’s still plenty of room for improvement.
“This team is committed and eager to grow and mature,” the Bologna manager continued. “If we had a few more hours of training available, we could refine some aspects. The team is young and has room for improvement. Juventus never dies, and the little we conceded to them wasn’t enough to secure a victory.“
Bologna must recover quickly from dropping two invaluable points in Turin as they resume their faltering UEFA Champions League campaign on Wednesday against Benfica. Italiano’s charges have lost four consecutive European outings since a 0-0 day-one draw against Shakhtar Donetsk.
