The New Orleans Pelicans have gone through the same cycle with Zion Williamson for years.

The former No. 1 pick looks great when he takes the floor, but that excitement is often short-lived.

He’s dealt with a never-ending string of injuries and he usually takes much longer to recover than the average player.

Moreover, there have always been some concerns about his work ethic, eating habits, and weight.

That’s why, now that he might finally be traded after years of speculation, Bill Simmons believes it would take a special organization to straighten him out.

“To me, he has to go to an awesome organization that will really put some thought, love, and care into this. And to me, it’s Miami or San Antonio,” he said.

The Miami Heat have a history of making the most of players who struggled somewhere else, and their hardnosed culture might be just what he needs to finally stay in shape.

Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra’s workouts and practices are infamous for how tough they are.

They will most likely include a body fat percentage clause in his deal like they’ve done with other players in the past.

As for the San Antonio Spurs, they’ve set the bar high in terms of organization and player management in the past.

Even if Gregg Popovich isn’t there, their player development and training staff is top-notch, and the prospect of having him next to a fellow No. 1 pick like Victor Wembanyama is mouth-watering.

Whether the Pelicans will end up moving him remains to be seen, but it’s starting to feel like we might never get to watch him fulfill his potential.
