Barcelona could face a major setback with Dani Olmo’s availability for the second half of the season as LaLiga has reportedly ruled out extending the Spain international’s registration ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

The situation has already drawn interest from two clubs closely monitoring the 26-year-old’s status.

Olmo joined Barcelona in the summer, after the Catalan side paid €55 million with an additional €7 million due in potential add-ons, under a temporary registration valid until December 31, giving the Catalan side time to meet LaLiga’s financial fair play requirements.

The plan was to secure a long-term registration for the midfielder, but with the deadline looming, Barcelona appear unable to provide the necessary financial guarantees to extend his stay beyond the current arrangement.

TEAMtalk reported on Wednesday, citing sources, that Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have both expressed interest in signing Olmo, but Barcelona remains his top choice. The player is hopeful that the situation will be resolved soon, allowing him to stay with the club.

ESPN reported on Tuesday, citing sources, that Dani Olmo’s contract includes a clause allowing him to leave for free if he is not registered for the second half of the season. However, both the player and the club have no intention of pursuing that option.

“The decision made by Dani is to stay at Barcelona as he wants play for Barça,” Olmo’s agent told reporters. “We are not considering any other option. Dani wants to play for Barcelona.”
