Barcelona boss Hansi Flick breaks silence on ongoing Dani Olmo re-registration saga – with the £50m star currently UNABLE to play for the rest of the season

Hansi Flick has spoken on the ongoing saga surrounding Dani Olmo’s status at Barcelona.

After joining the Catalan club in the summer in a £50m move from RB Leipzig, Olmo eventually became a key component of Flick’s side that currently sit third in LaLiga.

However, as a result of the club’s well-publicised financial difficulties, upon arrival Olmo was forced to sit out for the first two weeks before Barcelona were finally able to register him after Andreas Christensen was forced out injured.

This move was only temporary however, and the registration was set to expire on December 31.

The club were rocked by the news that their attempts to re-register Olmo had ended in failure, meaning the 26-year-old will not be able to play for the club again this season and cannot even leave on loan due to Barcelona not having his registration.

23-year-old forward Pau Victor finds himself in the same situation with his re-registration also not completed before the deadline and, like Olmo, could leave the club as a free agent.

Hansi Flick has insisted he has confidence in his club despite Barcelona’s failure to re-register Dani Olmo

The news will no doubt come as a significant headache for Flick, who arrived at the club in the summer having previous led Bayern Munich to Bundesliga and Champions League success.

Asked about Olmo’s current status Flick insisted: ‘It’s not my job.

‘I spoke with the president Laporta today and I have confidence in the club. They do their job, I do mine.’

Earlier this week Flick admitted he was not best pleased with the ongoing saga..

‘It’s normal. To be honest, I wasn’t happy with the situation either,’ said Flick. ‘The players aren’t happy either, but we have to accept that we are professionals.

‘I’m optimistic, but we have to wait for the decision.’

With speculation ongoing as to where Olmo’s future lies, a number of clubs are said to be monitoring his situation.

However, the player’s agent Andy Bara has claimed that the player’s intention is to ‘stay at Barcelona’ and that they are ‘not considering any other option’.
