AT THE SFS, FOOTBALL AND INJURIES WILL BE DISCUSSED WITH THE AIC

On November 19 and 20, at Rome’s Olympic Stadium, the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) will take center stage in a panel titled: Injury Time: The Impact of Injuries. Presentation of the AIC Analysis on the Value of Injuries .The event, scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, at 9:30 AM on the Football Stage, will feature Fabio Giuseppe Pioli, AIC Organizational Director; Umberto Calcagno, AIC President; and Marco Piccinini, AIC Pro Collaborator.

“I hope the situation can be resolved differently, without having to resort to a strike, but it is necessary to find common ground,” stated Calcagno in an interview with Radio Sportiva, commenting on the stance of several players, including Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, regarding the increasing number of matches and ever more demanding schedules. At the SFS, this delicate issue will be explored in depth, along with its associated consequences.

What might initially seem like a simple injury can actually be interpreted from multiple perspectives. Firstly, there is the economic perspective, with both direct and indirect costs burdening clubs (ranging from medical expenses to the depreciation of a player’s value). Then, there is the psychological impact, which includes immediate effects on players, such as anxiety, stress, loss of self-esteem, frustration, or social isolation caused by excessively damaging media campaigns.

The three speakers, after presenting some data, will certainly outline best practices to adopt, as well as the use of digital tools and wearable tech to monitor and prevent injuries. The session will also include broader reflections on the sustainability of the “football system” and potential future actions, such as synergistic approaches between federations, clubs, and players or the implementation of new analytical trends.
