With the January transfer window now open, Paris Saint-Germain are looking to move on players no longer part of their plans, and Marco Asensio is among them.
Since November 30, Asensio’s role has steadily decreased. The former Real Madrid star has dropped out of the starting lineup and made only a handful of appearances as a substitute.
Mail Sport reported that Aston Villa are one of the clubs interested in Asensio as they look to bolster their attack before the window closes. Earlier this week, rumors also linked him to Wolverhampton, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Chelsea.
Aston Villa is said to be leading the race, though Bayer Leverkusen and Galatasaray have also shown interest. Talks for a permanent move are ongoing, with a fee expected to be between €15 million and €25 million.
As the window draws to a close and with Luis Enrique seemingly not viewing him as a key part of his plans, Asensio’s future is generating plenty of speculation.
Marco Asensio on his way to Villa Park
Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Aston Villa have reached an agreement to sign Asensio on loan from PSG. This move doesn’t affect Marcus Rashford, who is still expected to join Villa on loan with a likely option to buy. PSG are content to find a short-term solution for Asensio, with Villa covering his full wages.
