Arsenal are preparing a club record offer to sign Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez this summer, according to sensational reports in Spain.

The Argentina international has been heavily linked with a Premier League move over the past few years and Arsenal are reportedly ready to lodge a huge bid in order to tempt Inter into a sale.

Lautaro currently has four-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal, after signing a contract extension in August, but Mikel Arteta’s side are desperate to sign a new striker amid Kai Havertz’s recent woes in front of goal.

FootballTransfers understands that RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko is Arteta’s favoured target, but Spanish outlet Fichajes claim that Arsenal are preparing a €120m offer for Lautaro.

Declan Rice is currently the Gunners’ most expensive signing of all time, courtesy of his €116.6m switch from West Ham United, but they are reportedly willing to break that record in order to land Lautaro this year.

The Argentine has scored 144 goals in 313 appearances for Inter, following his move from Racing Club in 2018, and he has established himself as one of the best centre forwards in world football in recent years.

Arsenal want a new striker

In addition to Lautaro and Sesko, Arsenal have also been linked with a number of other strikers over the past few months.

Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres have both been heavily tipped to secure an Emirates Stadium switch, while Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic is also an option.

After failing to land a new striker in January, Arteta admitted his frustration at the club’s inability to sign forward reinforcements amid an injury crisis in north London.

“We had a clear intention which is always when a window opens to explore the opportunities to improve our squad with players that can make an impact,” he recently told reporters.

“With players injured, we’ve been impacted and we haven’t achieved it. We are disappointed in that sense.”
