‘Absolutely devastated’ Luke Shaw posts emotional statement as Manchester United react to latest injury setback

He has since confirmed he will be absent in an emotional Instagram post. He wrote on his Instagram story: “Hi guys, it’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forward, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback. “I’ve been through a lot and had a lot of ups and downs but this has definitely been my toughest period. “I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time. “I understand there is gunna [sic] be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that. “There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment in time. “But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season. “Thank you to everyone for the support. The 29-year-old missed the opening games of the Premier League season due to the calf injury sustained at the start of pre-season training. He played at the end of England’s Euro 2024 campaign having arrived at camp returning to fitness. Shaw also missed a large majority of last season due to various injuries. He made just 15 appearances in all competitions in that campaign. Since becoming the most expensive teenage in world football when he signed from Southampton in 2014 for £30,000, the left back has made 278 appearances for the club. He’s won two League Cups, the FA Cup and the Europa League with the Red Devils too. Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim will be eager to build on United’s 4-0 win over Everton on Sunday when they face Arsneal. On the Gunners, he said: “It’s the best team that we’ve faced, by far. But the test is every game. “If you see the last game, was really tough. It was a 4-0 but you see the game like I see it. Every game now is a test without so many minutes to train. “Trying to manage the numbers of minutes of so many players, you cannot try to imagine one game. You have to know that some players might have to be out of the pitch in 60 minutes, 70 minutes so it’s really hard at this moment. “Everything is a test but Arsenal… I know it’s not easy for [a] Manchester United [head coach] to say, but they are in a different point of their team. They are in a different moment.”
