Josh Allen tied the knot with actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld back in May.

Now, the Buffalo Bills franchise quarterback – and reigning NFL MVP – is spilling all the details about how the power couple navigate their relationship and the health demands that come with being a professional athlete.

Ahead of Bills training camp in July, Allen sat down with GQ to discuss his diet and the importance of sleep and recovery on how well he performs on the NFL field, while also opening up on how a different ball game has helped him perfect his craft.

Although he attributes his on-field performances to how well he sleeps, the 28-year-old has also dove deeper into how he ensures he can get the most productive sleep possible.

“I’ve taken some of the things that I’ve been told from a few sleep doctors: Making sure the room is cold, making sure it’s quiet. Sometimes I throw on a little bit of green noise [a variation of white noise],” Allen admitted.

“I just got an infrared sauna, and it’s got some red light as well. Me and my wife have been doing that almost daily.

“I’m also making sure I’m working out for my body type and what I need to do to perform on the field.

Allen added, “Working out, getting the right sleep, and a good diet, —it’s been keeping me on a really good track.”

Rumors of Allen’s romance with Steinfeld — which was almost cursed by a $430 ‘bad omen‘ — were first fueled back in spring 2023 when the pair were spotted out together.

It would be over a year later when the Bills superstar hard launched his relationship with the True Grit and Sinners actress, via an Instagram post in July 2024.

The two then announced their engagement just four months later in November 2024, and were married seven months after that.

But sitting in the infrared sauna with his new wife isn’t the only thing that Allen revealed has helped his performance on the field.

In fact, the three-time Pro Bowler admitted that playing a different kind of ball game has vastly improved his football.

Already a keen swimmer, Allen also spends large parts of his offseason playing golf, and participates in the annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship Tournament.

“I’m playing really well right now, probably the best I’ve played in my life,” Allen said of his golf.

“I don’t really play much during the year, especially in Buffalo because the weather is not too great. Every off season, it feels like I’m starting from scratch. But I feel like I’m in a good spot right now.”

However, being Buffalo’s signal caller comes with its (sometimes painful) challenges, though Allen strongly believes his arm mechanics have developed tremendously since being on the course due to the similarities in body movement between the two sports.

“Depending on how many hits you take, sometimes it takes a few weeks for your body to be like “All right, now we can swing a club” because the rotation of the swing is just such a different movement,” Allen added.

“But I do feel like I’ve noticed the better that I’ve gotten at golfing, the better I am at throwing, mechanically. And I think it’s a very similar movement, obviously a very different game, but similar movement from throwing a football and swinging a club.”

In the Bills’ 2024 NFL regular season campaign, Allen posted 3,731 passing yards for 28 touchdowns, at a 63.6 percent completion rate.

He also had a career-best six interceptions, only the second time in his seven-year career where he has thrown single-digit INTs.

A powerful rusher of the football, Allen also ran for 531 yards, averaging 5.2 yards per carry, and drove in another 12 touchdowns, cementing his MVP campaign.

With the coveted individual award in his pocket, Buffalo instilled their belief in Allen as their answer to delivering the organization a Super Bowl by making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in NFL history.

But with such investment comes high pressure on the quarterback to deliver, with the Bills not having even made a Super Bowl appearance since 1993 when they made four straight with Jim Kelly under center, though they would be on the losing side on all four occasions.

Allen penned a record six-year, $330 million contract extension to remain at the heart of Bills Mafia back in March, even leaving some money on the table, just two months prior to his wedding to Steinfeld.

Not bad for a young player who grew up in a small farm town and had to email coaches his own highlight reels as he sought to earn a college offer to play football.

Steinfeld, on the other hand, is a star in her own right, having earned nominations for an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award during her acting career.

She has appeared in movies like True Grit, Pitch Perfect, The Edge of Seventeen, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Steinfeld also plays Kate Bishop in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
