Scooter Braun and Kanye 'Ye' West's relationship is water under the bridge, at least according to the record executive.

The businessman provided an update on the current state of his friendship with Ye, and it is clear that the bond has been severed for some time now.

Scooter Braun began managing Kanye 'Ye' West in 2016 after he parted ways with his then-manager Izzy Zivkovic. The duo split two years later in 2018 following claims that Ye desired an in-house team for his music career.

The 44-year-old affirmed in a new interview that the version of Ye, which he knew a few years back, is unfortunately gone.

"I don't know him anymore. I think the person that I knew wasn't someone who says those things," Braun declared during his appearance on the "Question Everything" podcast on Thursday.

He admitted that mourning the loss of a friendship or relationship with someone while they are still alive is one of the hardest things to do, but sometimes it is the right step.

Braun added that the Ye he knew and managed was completely different from this new version which he does not have a relationship with.

The business mogul explained that he would rather "stand proudly" in who he is and his knowledge of those in his corner than be a part of Ye's new world. Regarding Ye's potential for redemption, Braun insisted that he does not know the rapper and noted that his priorities have shifted. In his words:

"I have three beautiful kids that need a dad to focus on them and make sure they're prepared and strong in this world. That's going to be my focus."

Scooter and Ye decided to end their working relationship in April of 2018, according to Variety. The split was very amicable between the duo after Braun reportedly rejected Ye’s offer to bring his services in-house.

The rapper reportedly gave standing instructions to his core team, including his attorney at the time, to conduct all business through his Yeezy company, in order to enforce a restructuring of his management.

Braun and Ye parted ways on the heels of his plan to release five consecutive musical projects with various artists at the time.

The duo began working together in 2016, a time that was highly controversial for the rapper. Apart from the cancellation of his 2016 “Saint Pablo” tour at the time, he also made headlines for his erratic behavior while performing on the tour.

He reportedly made several pro-Donald Trump remarks and departed the stage in the middle of a performance upon learning that Kim Kardashian had been robbed in Paris. He ended the year with a hospitalization for psychiatric evaluation in Los Angeles.

The father-of-three’s career was rocked with a massive controversy in 2016, when pop sensation Taylor Swift’s masters were sold alongside Big Machine Records by Scott Borchetta to Braun.

According to PEOPLE, the deal was reportedly worth approximately $300 million, and Swift did not have a pleasant reaction to the news that her master recordings were being sold to the highest bidder.

The singer released a statement on the issues, revealing that he had pleaded with Borchetta for years to allow her own her original piece of work. However, Borchetta reportedly offered a deal to return to Big Machine, earning back her masters for every new album she produces on the label.

“Now, Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it,” Swift declared.

Swift admitted that she walked away from her former record label, knowing that Borchetta would do what he did. Several artists, including Justin Bieber, came to Braun’s defense at the time, noting that the record executive bore no ill intentions towards the pop star.

Last month, The Blast shared that Braun got vulnerable about the condition his failed marriage left him, psychologically and professionally.

Braun and his former wife, Yael Cohen, separated in 2021 after seven years of marriage and three children. The marriage was officially dissolved in 2022, and the businessman is still recovering from the aftermath.

He revealed that he dealt with suicidal thoughts when everything came crashing down in 2020, as he felt overwhelmed by the idea of missing his wife and kids.

Braun described his sudden marital situation as a reality check, showing that despite his reputable resume in the industry and a polished marital life at the time, he can still be unhappy.

The 44-year-old made a significant life decision last year when he decided to permanently step away from the business of managing musical acts after two decades in the game.

According to him, it had become imperative for him to take that step to focus on his family and personal endeavors above all else. Braun detailed that after a deep retrospection, he discovered the sacrifices he made for his career in the past were no longer justifiable now that he has kids to look after.

"I never saw how this chapter would end, hell, I never even saw it happening. But it did. And I will cherish every moment of it. I made my plan... but it turns out I like God's plan better. Cheers!" he concluded in the announcement post, where he took his fans through his journey managing several careers over the years.
