Michigan football might not have a currently set recruiting department, with some changes in the past two weeks, but it's certainly starting to get some heat going on the trail. And though the Wolverines had struggled last year to reel in a top-flight linebacker via both recruiting and the transfer portal, they're in the hunt for one in 2027.
2027 Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel four-star linebacker Roman Igwebuike is in the early stages of whittling down his suitors, and though it hasn't narrowed ot the point of four or eight or even 10, Michigan football made the cut in his recently released top 12. But USC, Clemson, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Florida, Miami, Georgia, and Tennessee are all also among his finalists.

Igwebuike is rated No. 89 overall, regardless of position, according to 247Sports' proprietary rankings. He's the sixth-best linebacker and No. 4 player in the state of Illinois.
Listed at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, Igwebuike would give the Wolverines some big-time size roaming the middle of the defense. He was offered relatively early by the previous Michigan staff, having received his offer all the way back in March 2025. Of his finalists, Missouri, USC, and Tennessee preceded the Wolverines, coming in, working to get him to come to their school
