Tommy Fury’s camp has made it clear Jake Paul will need to be patient if he wants a rematch with the British fighter.

The original bout in Saudi Arabia was one of the year’s biggest events, with Fury outboxing Paul over eight rounds despite being knocked down late in the fight. It ended in a split decision after one judge gave it to Paul, but Fury had controlled most of the action.

Since then, both sides have talked up a rematch. But travel issues have been a sticking point, with Fury unable to fight outside the UK and Paul preferring bouts in America.

Jake Paul and Tommy Fury have never managed to get a second fight scheduled, despite the massive pay-per-view numbers and payouts from their first bout. While Paul has kept active in the ring, Fury’s schedule has been less consistent. He took on KSI in a big-name fight, then had hand surgery, and has only fought once since then.

But there’s renewed hope of seeing them run it back this year – even if it means the American will have to travel to the UK.

“We’re going to make Jake Paul wait because he made us wait,” John Fury told Boxing Now. “Now he’s in the cold he wants to step back into the hot weather but it’s not going to happen for him and it’s going to be hard this time.

“He made it hard for us, we’re going to make it hard for him. You know me and Tommy, we are an item, we do things as father and son and he believes wholeheartedly in me, that’s why he’s a multi-millionaire who’s 12-0 and never had a black eye.”

Jake Paul went the Netflix route, says John Fury

Jake Paul, looking for a quick return to action, was open to a rematch but ultimately chose Anthony Joshua instead. He ended up taking a heavy defeat when he broke his jaw inside six rounds.

“I know what I’m doing,” the elder Fury continued. “All them guys want to fight Tommy, I’m sure we’ll fight them if it makes good business sense. But he could have fought us, didn’t and went the AJ route with these people [Netflix].

“I don’t blame him for that, it’s all business. But now we’re with the Netflix people, Netflix is with us and not him. So he’s going to have to put a bit of respect on our name too, isn’t he?”
