Through the first 36 minutes of Super Bowl 60 between the Seahawks and Patriots, the game had lived up to the defensive matchup many expected. And really, all the scoring came courtesy of one player.

After the Seahawks took a 12-0 lead in the third quarter by way of a Jason Myers field goal, the Seahawks kicker became the obvious favorite to capture Super Bowl MVP — should the score hold. Myers tied a Super Bowl record with four made field goals.

If Myers were to win Super Bowl MVP, he would also be making Super Bowl history at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.

Has a kicker ever won Super Bowl MVP?

The answer is no. A placekicker has never won the honor. In the first 59 Super Bowls, MVP has gone to a quarterback 34 times. A kick returner and cornerback have won MVP once, but never a kicker.
