Michigan State football will return to the field for its first spring practice in about six weeks.
New Spartans head coach Pat Fitzgerald met with the media on Wednesday to discuss a number of key topics, with one of them being upcoming spring practice. According to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press, Fitzgerald said Michigan State will first take the field on March 17 for its first spring practice.
Additionally, Fitzgerald said that spring practice will wrap up with a "fan fest" type of event as its final outing of the spring session. This means Michigan State will once again not hold a traditional spring game -- a trend that has taken over across all of college football.
Fitzgerald is taking over after former Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith was fired after two seasons. He was hired in early December and has since brought a ton of energy and positive vibes into the Spartans program. Those positive vibes will continue with spring practice starting up in mid-March.
Pat Fitzgerald says MSU football will start spring practice March 17 (St. Patrick's Day, he points out). Sounds like he wants to do more of a "fan fest" type of spring event rather than a spring game.
