A woman in Panama City, Florida, has been accused of allegedly poisoning a plate of spaghetti, which her roommate unknowingly consumed.
The Panama City Police Department reported that Carolyn Marie Chalfant allegedly poured bleach or peroxide into a pot of spaghetti that was sitting on the stove in her home’s kitchen on January 19, according to an incident report viewed by Oxygen.
The roommate, whose name has not been publicly revealed, told police that Chalfant, 63, turned on the stovetop to heat up a container of spaghetti before she went back into her bedroom. The roommate then decided to have a taste of the meal, though “noticed that it tasted really odd” after a few bites.
Another individual in the residence also had a bite of the spaghetti and said that it “tasted” like bleach, according to the report. Additionally, the other person noted that the meal “tasted and smelled like peroxide.”

Police said that it had been reported that two bottles of peroxide were placed on the kitchen counter, and Chalfant allegedly moved them there earlier in the day.
After police were called to the home, the responding officer observed the pot of spaghetti that still had some of the allegedly poisoned food in it. “The noodles in the bottom of the pan were no longer the color of spaghetti sauce, they were white,” the officer said in the report, per the outlet. “The spaghetti also had a strong chemical smell to it.”
The officer also noted that the bottom of the pot itself was no longer the color of the spaghetti sauce, according to WMBB.
The victim also told authorities that Chalfant “had been causing a lot of problems” and was “trying to kick” him, his wife and their children out of the residence. Additionally, he claimed that Chalfant “is always intoxicated.”
It is not currently clear why Chalfant would try to poison the meal or if she intended for her roommate to eat the spaghetti.
Following the incident, Chalfant was booked into the Bay County Jail with a $150,000 bond. She has been charged with poisoning food, water, or medicine with the intent to kill or injure, according to online records viewed by Us Weekly.

Chalfant is next scheduled to appear in court on Monday, February 16. She has been appointed a public defender, though the name of her legal counsel is not currently available to the public.
If Chalfant is found guilty of poisoning food, water, or medicine with the intent to kill or injure, she could be sentenced to serve up to 30 years in prison, be ordered to pay fines up to $10,000 or both, according to the Leppard Law Firm’s website.
The investigation into Chalfant’s arrest remains ongoing.
