Oleksandr Usyk faces Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday evening.
Four versions of the world heavyweight championship are on the line in this winner-takes-all battle. Usyk enters as the current keeper of three of the four belts and now aims to regain the IBF strap from his opponent. Which man will leave victorious?
Dubois is the home fighter, appearing before thousands of fans at the iconic London venue. Lawrence Okolie vs Kevin Lerena, Saturday, 21:00
Lawrence Okolie is one of Britain’s most exciting prospects when he’s kept busy against live opponents. Followers of The Sauce know he must get a move on if he’s to realise his potential. The 32-year-old Londoner is ranked fifth in the United Kingdom, a list currently topped by Daniel Dubois. Lawrence is also behind Fabio Wardley, Anthony Joshua, and Tyson Fury.
- Okolie to win at 4/9 with Betfred
- Draw at 14/1 with Betfred
- Lerena to win at 2/1 with Betfred
Odds provided by Betfred, which are correct at the time of writing, but please remember boxing betting prices can and often do change approaching the first bell.
A win on Saturday won’t improve that much, but it will secure him the WBC silver heavyweight title, paving the way for a shot at the winner of the main event. Okolie knows he has a huge opportunity to showcase his talents to the wider boxing community and prove he’s ready for a title shot. To achieve that, he must win and do it in style. I’m picking him to bank a third stoppage win in three fights. He’s looked good since moving up from cruiserweight, and his power is evident.
Okolie to win is 4/9 at Betfred, and that’s worth a spot in your fight night accumulators. He stopped each of his last two opponents in the opening round, and those looking for a bigger price can try another early KO/TKO. Okolie to win in the first three rounds is 9/1 (Betfred).
Kevin Lerena is a South African with a 31-3-0 record and a 48% knockout average. He was stopped inside three rounds by Dubois at the end of 2022 and dropped a points decision to Justis Huni in Saudi Arabia in March 2024. He’ll come to fight, but will leave gaps for his opponent to exploit.
Back Okolie in rounds 1-3 at 9/1 with Betfred
Daniel Lapin vs Lewis Edmonson, Saturday, 20:00
Earlier in the evening, we have an interesting match-up for the IBF Inter-Continental light heavyweight title involving the unbeaten duo Daniel Lapin and Lewis Edmonson. Both men enter the ring with identical 11-0-0 records, with Lapin ranked at number 33 in the world and his opponent at 46.
- Lapin to win at 1/5 with Betfred
- Draw at 12/1 with Betfred
- Edmonson to win at 4/1 with Betfred
Odds provided by Betfred are subject to change.
Lapin vs Edmonson is another Ukraine vs Britain showdown, with Edmonson travelling from Southampton. It’s also another example of fantastic matchmaking, and everyone involved in making this bout happen deserves full credit, including Frank Warren’s matchmaker, Steve Furness. The winner of this bout will shoot up the rankings, leaving with the belt and opening the door for more big-money fights. But who will come out on top?
Both men are highly skilled operators, and it would be easy to make a strong case for either winning on Saturday, but I’m siding with the southpaw skills of Lapin. Neither man carries impressive KO stats into the bout, meaning it’s likely to go the distance. You can follow my pick and back Lapin to win at odds of 1/5 or support the Brit at 4/1. Aiming for a better price on my pick? You can take Lapin to win on points at 8/11.
All odds quoted for this fight are available on the Betfred website and mobile app.
Back Lapin to win on points at 8/11 with Betfred
Vladyslav Sirenko vs Solomon Dacres, Saturday, 19:00
My third and final pick from the undercard of Usyk v Dubois at Wembley on Saturday, broadcast live on DAZN, is Vladyslav Sirenko vs Solomon Dacres, and it’s another cracker. Sirenko is a 30-year-old Ukrainian heavyweight ranked at number 36th in the world.
Saturday is a golden opportunity for the fighter currently based in New York to box before a huge audience at the arena and following live on TV. Will he take his chance and score another important victory?
- Sirenko to win at 1/8 with Betfred
- Draw at 22/1 with Betfred
- Solomon Dacres at 5/1 with Betfred
Sirenko brings a perfect 22-0-0 record with 19 wins coming inside the distance. He’s making his first appearance in the United Kingdom, but is a well-travelled boxer, having fought in his homeland, the United States, France, Germany, South Africa, and Austria. That ensures nothing will faze him during the build-up or when he enters the ring. Another impressive win would take Sirenko’s record to 23 straight wins, and his team know a 20th KO/TKO would help earn him new fans in England.
Is Solomon Dacres the man to stop his opponent’s impressive winning streak? The betting traders don’t think so, and I’m also happy to oppose the Englishman known as the Meal Deal. Dacres is a 31-year-old fighter from the West Midlands with a 9-1-0 record, with two KO victories and that spare loss also coming inside the distance.
Dacres was knocked out in a round by David Adeleye at Wembley in December, dropping to the canvas with a vicious hook to the head while fighting for the English title. On paper, he looks to be in over his head against a talented opponent rising through the ranks. Solomon is an outsider in the betting for good reason, and I’m backing Sirenko to win in style.
Back Sirenko to win in rounds 1-3 at 11/4 with Betfred
