Former Auburn football quarterback Patrick Nix announced he is resigning as Central Phenix-City's head football coach after six years of holding the position. The school district announced the news Thursday, Jan. 8.
During his six years with the Red Devils, Nix notched a 65-14 record with a state title in 2023. Before his coaching days at Central Phenix-City, Nix also made coaching stops at Scottsboro and Pinson Valley, where he won a pair of state championships with his son, Bo Nix.
Bo is the starting QB for the Denver Broncos and recently secured a No. 1 seed and first round bye in the AFC bracket of the NFL playoffs. Like his father, Bo also played QB at Auburn from 2019-21.
As a head coach, Nix's record stands at 131-36 with a 31-10 record in the playoffs. Nix claimed seven regional titles and three state championships in his time as a high school head coach.
During his playing years, Nix served as Auburn football's starting QB for two seasons in 1994 and 1995. During Nix's time as a starter for Auburn, the Tigers were 17-5-1. Nix finished his career at Auburn with 4,957 yards passing and 31 passing touchdowns on 386 completions.
Nix went straight into coaching after graduating from Auburn, making stops at the collegiate level with Jacksonville State, Samford, Georgia Tech and Miami before taking his first high school football coaching job at Scottsboro.
Nix has coached NFL players like Kool-Aid McKinstry and Tez Johnson, as well as former Auburn receiver Cam Coleman.
