The Washington Commanders continue making roster moves even after the 2025 season concluded on Sunday.

It's that time of year when each NFL team is signing several players to reserve/futures contracts. These are contracts signed after the regular season and before the new league year begins, typically in March. These are contracts for players who finished the season on a practice squad or were free agents not with an NFL team.

Seeing the Commanders severed their ties with three coaches Tuesday (Kliff Kingsbury, Joe Whitt Jr and Bobby Johnson) it was lost that the Commanders signed two players, and then Wednesday they signed a third.

On Tuesday, Washington signed G Tyler Cooper and WR Nick Nash, and on Wednesday, the Commanders signed TE Lawrence Cager.

Cager is a 6-5, 220-pound tight end who played his college ball for the Georgia Bulldogs. He has been in the NFL since 2020 with the Jets (2020), Browns (2021), Jets (2022), Giants (2022-24) and Commanders (2025). Cager has appeared in 22 NFL games, including the Commanders' Week 16 home loss to the Eagles at Northwest Stadium.

Nash (6-3, 195) was an undrafted wide receiver who was signed by the Falcons and then released after training camp this past season. Cooper (6-5, 302) was actually signed by Washington in September to the Commanders' practice squad and later released, signed by the Cardinals to their practice squad, and now signed again by Washington.

These contracts are normally league-minimum, one-year deals with no guarantees, and the signings count towards the 90-man offseason roster limit and the salary cap for the next league year (when the new season begins). This allows the players to have a secure path for that year's offseason program and training camp. It places them on the 90-man offseason roster limit.
