During the NFL trade deadline, Alvin Kamara's name was tossed around as a potential trade chip for the Saints, who are looking to rebuild and start over. Kamara stated via social media he would: "go sip a pina colada somewhere, " if traded.
Kamara clarified that statement on Terron Armstead's podcast called "The Set."
"I saw a lot of people looking at that and saying, like, I was holding the Saints hostage by saying that if they traded me, that I would retire. Which is not at all what I was saying," Kamara said. "What I was saying was the same thing that I've said my whole career. I want to be in New Orleans, right? Period. In the simplest of forms. I want to be in New Orleans. If I were to have to play football somewhere else, then I don’t want to play football, that's all I was saying."
Kamara wants to be a lifetime Saint. Honestly, even with the Saints looking to cut the money at places, Kamara still can be in the plans for little to no extra money. Alvin has never struck me as the type who is concerned with his place in history or someone who craves the top spot. He's found a home, and that is more important than anything to the Saints running back.
The Saints star continued about the potential conversation with the Saints GM.
"It's like 'Well, they went to Alvin and asked him if he wanted to be traded. And he told Mickey Loomis that if they trade him...' I wasn't holding anybody hostage. At the end of the day, that entity, that team, they swing the gavel. So, I'm never going to go up there and be like if you trade me, I'm going to go home."
Kamara continued about why his six-touchdown cleat performance doesn't have representation at Canton.
Kamara: "No, they asked me to, they don't got them."
Armstead: "You sure?"
Kamara: "C'mon, yes of course, why would I...why would I give them to them?"
Armstead: "Then they fined you."
Kamara: "They fined me, and then asked me if they could have them for the Hall of Fame, and guess what I did, I said 'yeah, y'all can have them, y'all gotta pay me for them though.'"
Armstead: "And they...?"
Kamara: "'We don't do that', and I said 'yeah y'all do', but I'm not gonna say who they paid, but they do that, and they was like 'nah well we don't' and I said 'ok well y'all cant have them', why would I do that, y'all fined me and now you wanna put it... no, N-O."
Kamara has a future in story telling when his football career is done.
