For the first time since 2015, the AFC West will have a new divisional champion, and it will be between the Broncos and Chargers after the Chiefs were eliminated from playoff contention.
Heading into Week 16, Denver has the leg up for the division, currently with a 91% chance. So yes, I'm telling you there's a chance for Los Angeles, a 9% chance to be exact.
It's a long shot, but it can still happen. For it to come to fruition, these things must happen:
- The Chargers need to win their remaining games, including their final regular-season game against the Broncos.
- The Chargers need the Broncos to lose at least one of their next two games (against the Jaguars in Week 16 and the Chiefs in Week 17).
If both teams finish with the same record, the Week 18 matchup would decide the division title. The Chargers already won the first matchup this season.
If the Broncos defeat the Jaguars in Week 16 and the Bolts lose to the Cowboys, Denver will clinch the AFC West title and the Chargers will go to the playoffs as a Wild Card team.
