5 New Movies and TV Shows You Need to Watch in December 2025

‘Fallout’ Season 2 — Prime Video

The hit Emmy-nominated video game adaptation finally returns for an exciting season 2. In a dystopian wasteland ravaged by nuclear war, humans mostly live in underground bunkers to stay safe. Unbeknownst to them, the bunkers are more than they appear. One citizen of this dangerous world is Lucy (Ella Purnell), who leaves the safety of her bunker in search of her father.

Lucy will be setting out on a new adventure for this second season, and we can’t wait to see what it is. Fallout was praised in particular for its faithfulness to the games, but it’s also just a really great sci-fi show. Along with Purnell, the cast includes Kyle MacLachlan, Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten and Moisés Arias.

Stream Fallout season 2 on December 17 on Prime Video.

‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5 — Netflix

While the show may still be called Emily in Paris, season 5 of the popular Netflix series will take a look at Emily’s life in the wake of swapping Paris for Rome at the end of season 4. However, series creator Darren Star promises fans the new season will ultimately be about both cities. The show stars Lily Collins as marketing executive Emily Cooper, who initially transitions to a Parisian life for her job.

Emily in Paris has never been the biggest hit with critics, but it’s always been a hit with audiences. Fans can’t help but indulge in Emily’s little European reveries, which in turn act as the perfect form of pure pop escapism. The addictive nature, overly perky protagonist and gorgeous fashions make Emily in Paris a true guilty pleasure.

This five-part adaptation of a novel by Kanae Minato stars Drive My Car’s Hidetoshi Nishijima and has a genuinely chilling plot. It centers on butterfly researcher Professor Sakaki (Nishijima) who admits to turning six boys, including his own son, into what he calls “human specimens.” The show will play out through multiple perspectives to disclose the professor’s disturbing actions and his relationship with his son.

Human Specimens sounds like a dark and disturbing psychological thriller that we can’t wait to sink our teeth into. The show is directed by Hiroki Ryûichi, who previously adapted one of Minato’s works with 2022’s Motherhood.

Stream Human Specimens on December 18 on Prime Video.

‘Born to Be Wild’ Season 1 — Apple TV

This brand-new natural history docuseries puts animal conservation on center stage, as the six-part show follows six endangered baby animals as they are rescued and grow up in human captivity, but are set to be returned to the wild someday. The show is meant to highlight the challenges and triumphs of conservation and rewilding efforts, along with the humans dedicated to this work.

The series is narrated by British actor Hugh Bonneville (Paddington) and is different from the nature documentary Born to be Wild from 2011 and narrated by Morgan Freeman. Apple TV has a great track record with nature docs, such as the phenomenal Prehistoric Planet, so Born to be Wild should be no different.

Stream Born to be Wild on December 19 on Apple TV.
