Before No. 7 Texas A&M (11-2, 7-1 SEC) hosts No. 10 Miami (FL) (10-2) in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Saturday afternoon, head coach Mike Elko broke the news on Monday that second-year offensive coordinator Collin Klein, who was hired as Kansas State's next head coach earlier this month, will be replaced by current Co-OC and WR coach Holmon Wiggins.

For those who paid attention, this isn't a shocking development, as Wiggins' background as former Alabama head coach Nick Saban's trusted assistant head coach and WR coach includes developing several current NFL wide receivers. At the same time, his two seasons alongside Klein have made him an expert regarding what Elko expects his offense to look like with starting quarterback Marcel Reed under center.

"I think he's extremely intelligent. I think he's very bright. I think he's got a great offensive mind. He obviously played a big role in what we've done around here on offense to this point.

"He spent a lot of time under some really good offensive coordinators over his career, and I think just sees the game in a way that's very compatible with how we want our offense to run. I think it makes a lot of sense."

With this promotion, Wiggins will have the opportunity to build a staff of trusted assistants around him, which, according to Football Scoop's recent report, could include Brad Cornelson, who Wiggins worked with during his time at Memphis (2012-2018) as the wide receivers coach, while Cornelson coached quarterbacks, and has since gained experience as an offensive coordinator.

"Cornelson then spent 2023-24 as the offensive coordinator at Sam Houston, and led the Bearkats to a win over Georgia Southern in the 2024 New Orleans Bowl after KC Keeler took the Temple job. He spent the 2025 season as the head coach at Enid High School in Oklahoma."

Cornelson checks all the boxes as a Power 4 assistant and would provide Wiggins with another trustworthy voice during his first season as Texas A&M's primary play caller.
