The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday with the chance to drastically increase their postseason odds.

Heading into the home stretch of the season, the Chiefs' chances of seeing the playoffs are slowly slipping away. A win on Sunday could change that and give the reigning AFC champions a shot at playing in mid to late-January.

The Chargers are sitting at second place in the AFC West and will look to almost guarantee Wild Card spot if they can take down Kansas City.

Chiefs vs. Chargers prediction

Chiefs 20, Chargers 27: The Chiefs' season has reached a breaking point after another avoidable loss to the Houston Texans in Week 14.

Kansas City's offense has stalled the past few weeks, despite the best efforts of quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Head coach Andy Reid continues to abandon the run game, and Mahomes is unable to shoulder the weight on his own. It will be imperative for the reigning AFC champions to utilize their running back trio on Sunday if they want to increase their playoff chances. A solid ground game will allow the two-time MVP to make use of his generational passing ability and find receivers downfield.

The Chiefs' defense was solid last week against the Texans. Struggling defensive lineman Chris Jones finally turned a corner and effectively rallied defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's squad. If not for the constant offensive struggles, Kansas City likely would have come out on top. Jones and company will need to maintain that energy against one of the league's hottest offenses.
