It appears that the College Football Coaching Carousel isn’t done spinning yet.
On Wednesday, Sherrone Moore unceremoniously ended his tenure at Michigan, with the University announcing that he was done, “with cause, effective immediately.” Though verified details remain scant, the statement said that the firing was a result of credible evidence of an inappropriate relationship with a staffer. Social media speculation is rife; however, the staffer has not been named.
Moore’s tenure with Michigan was modestly successful with a 16-8 record, but was peppered with mess including suspensions from the fallout from the cheating scandal (the first one). He’d recruited well, notably using Larry Ellison’s gazillions to purchase Bryce Underwood’s services.
While Michigan may be relieved to not have to pay a buyout, the timing could not be worse for the Wolverines. With a year of other mega programs searching for coaches and finalizing deals in recent weeks, Michigan may well be out in the cold for top coaching talent. They’ll always be an attractive program thanks to bottomless resources and a pedigree name – but the timing is very, very bad.
As for Sherrone…
What do you think? Where do the Wolverines go from here?
