Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton says Mohamed Salah has caused "a bit of a civil war at Liverpool" by speaking out "and let himself down".

Reflecting on the bombshell post-match interview that has everyone talking, Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club: "He has been honest and open, but he has made it all about him and not the team.

"He has been extremely selfish because now there is a bit of a civil war at Liverpool and it didn't need to be like this.

"There are ways to do things - like having a private conversation with a manager where you can tell him what you think of him and he can tell you what he thinks of you. That is fine because it stays within the walls of the manager's room.

"But what good could come out of what he did?

"We are seeing Mo Salah for what he really is and it's all about him being selfish. I think he has really let himself down.

"It is such a terrible look and everyone is talking about it so how has it been helpful?"

Wrexham defender Conor Coady added: "I have been trying to think why he would do it and I have been trying to put myself in his shoes from a player's point of view.

"Why would he go to these lengths? And all I can think of is that something has gone on behind the scenes that we don't know about.

"I don't think he should have ever gone to the press and it puts your team-mates in jeopardy which is the biggest wrong-doing that you can do in my eyes."
