The Rockets were down five projected rotation players, including Alperen Sengun (illness), Steven Adams (rest), and Tari Eason (oblique). Veterans Dorian Finney-Smith and Fred VanVleet remain sidelined indefinitely after offseason leg surgeries.

With Houston’s top two centers unavailable, Mavericks star Anthony Davis feasted, finishing with 29 points and 8 rebounds while making 14-of-19 shots (73.7%).

Thompson’s six turnovers were among 18 for the Rockets, which head coach Ime Udoka criticized in his postgame comments.

Saturday’s game completes a stretch of five games in seven days for the Rockets, who won’t play again until next Thursday, Dec. 11. That home game versus the Los Angeles Clippers (6-17) will tip off at 7:00 p.m. Central.
